Strong academic ties between Holguín University and Russian institutions

The University of Holguín maintains strong academic ties with 13 higher education institutions in the Russian Federation, formalized through collaboration agreements in various fields of knowledge.
These partnerships were highlighted during a panel at the International Book Fair, held at the university’s Ediciones pavilion, where the intensity and scope of this bilateral exchange were emphasized.
Francisco Luis López Medina, International Relations methodologist at the university, underscored the positive impact of these ties on Cubans’ postgraduate training in Russia, including PhD programs, master’s degrees, diplomas, and internships.
Scholarships granted to professors from Holguín have been crucial for developing their thesis research, providing access to new knowledge and technologies unavailable in Cuba.
The agreements have enabled a two-way flow of visitors: Russian directors, scientists, and specialists have visited the University of Holguín, while Cuban academics have been hosted at Russian institutions.
This exchange has fostered mutual enrichment, as expressed by the rector of Kuban University during his visit to Holguín mid-last year, who highlighted the value of learning about Cuban culture and the Spanish language, as well as Cuban expertise in engineering.
In particular, the Russian visitor recognized the relevance of Cuban experiences in wind and solar energy, especially regarding their dissemination and extension to isolated communities not connected to the National Electrical System.
This acknowledgment reflects Russian interest in areas where Cuba has developed practical and sustainable solutions, opening new avenues for technical and scientific cooperation.
Among the priorities agreed upon by both parties is the improvement of Russian and Spanish language teaching, considered essential for deepening general cultural and academic exchange.
This linguistic focus aims to strengthen direct communication between academics and students, thereby facilitating smoother and more effective collaboration in the various joint projects developed under these agreements.
