Holguín hosted the first International Convention on Energy, New Technologies, and Innovation for Development (EnergyTID) and the fourth Symposium on Gender and Renewable Energies, with representatives from Chile, Canada, Peru, and Honduras.

Both events were held simultaneously over three days at the Gran Muthu Almirante Hotel in Guardalavaca, with the aim to promote scientific dialogue for the common benefit, exchange knowledge and experiences on the change of the energy matrix and generate strategic collaboration spaces.

Organized by the University of Holguín (UHo), it included four specialized workshops focused on engineering, industry, and training for sustainable development, MSc. Julio Borrero Neninger, president of the Organizing Committee, explained to ACN.

Participants addressed topics related to the management of hydraulic and construction works, achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, and the role of women in the energy sector, Borrero added.

The symposium was linked to the project “Strengthening Leadership and Participation of Women in the Renewable Energy Sector in Cuba” (Former), a joint initiative by the Cuban and Canadian governments.

Discussions also covered business integration, gender methodology in social development programs, and the electrification of the isolated community of La Melba in Moa.

The event had the participatiomn of experts from the University of Moa, Sherritt International, and Cowater (Canada). With over 50 years of history, UHo reaffirms its commitment to sustainability and equity, aiming to establish EnergyTID as a global scientific event.
