The University of Holguín (UHo) began an external evaluation process on March 17, 2025, led by the National Accreditation Board of the Ministry of Higher Education, to renew its institutional accreditation.
Dr. C. Marcia Noda Hernández, executive secretary of JAN in the country, informed that this procedure, wich will run until March 21, is being carried out in response to the expiration of the validity period of the previous UHo qualification, which held the certified category more than five years ago, and the center's request to undergo a new evaluation.
The assessement, aimed at updating its current certified status, will evaluate the quality of its undergraduate and graduate education processes and the impact of the institution's role in the scientific and technical development of the región.
According to Noda Hernández, the evaluation examines relevance and university context through document reviews, classroom visits, exams, and interviews with professors, students and staff.
It stands out, the session of the Provincial Council for Science and Innovation, including the link between government and university, while the exchange with community members will lead to know about the impact of the UHo in transforming the reality of Holguín, she noted.
She added that this will allow for an understanding of the teaching effectiveness of the faculty, the effectiveness of the methodology applied in the approximately 42 programs comprised by the academy, its social responsibility, scientific research progress, and the outreach work of the students, which will influence the category proposals that range from qualified to excellent.
This process strengthens quality management in Cuban Higher Education, enhancing its international recognition.
In 2023, the University of Holguín accredited about 48 programs, of which 21 were undergraduate programs and 27 were postgraduates, most of them with the status of excellence.
