To raise the quality of life in rural areas and transform the best farmland in Cuba into large productive areas in order to guarantee sustainable development, is the main goal of the comprehensive development program undertaken in the Caribbean island, of which the Holguin municipality of Mayarí, is a kind of guide.
The Territorial Investment Plan of this territory amounts to 610 million 100 thousand pesos, of which 376 million 900 thousand 600 pesos were executed, up to 2017, representing 61.8 percent of the available, to achieve economic and social impacts that allow the amortization of the investment.
The completion of the Mayarí dam, the bridges, canals and tunnels (Mayarí - Birán and Mayarí - Levisa), the Arroyo Seco bridge and the Agua Guatemala water transfer demanded the delivery of 203 million 618 thousand 700 pesos, as part of the East - West water transfer project.

For the total development of the territory, mainly food production, is expected the starting into operation of three ice water pumps in the Dairy Company, a modern line for the production of 5 thousand liters of milk per hour; as well as an ice cream continuous freezer of a thousand liters, the air conditioning of the productive area and new equipment for the Ice Cream Factory, famous in the province for the quality of its product.
However, there are several problems that affect the progress of investments in Mayarí, such as delays in execution contracts by the local companies and works that do not have supply contracts, which delays the delivery schedule for materials.
It also limits the specialized workforce to carry out civil construction work, the poor planning of maintenance work with respect to the value plan and the low constructive capacity of companies such as the People’s Power Construction Company and Umbrales.

Unfortunately, at the end of the first quarter of 2018, delays persist in housing projects due to the lack of resources such as tie-wire, timber for formwork and aggregates in a territory with several people’s councils involved in the production of construction materials.
The Pharmacy of Cosme has not been finished, for details such as exterior and interior painting, the hydraulic installation and the operating room of the stomatological clinic is unfinished due to difficulties in resources delivery.
In these moments it is vital to rescue what was left to do and carry out repairs, maintenance and other impact works in those places where investments are planned in the Development Program of the Ministry of Agriculture for Mayarí until 2030, for the economic progress and the improvement of the quality of life of locals.
The municipality of Mayarí has the potential to become the first productive area of the country, the good soils and the installed productive capacities will allow increasing the exportable rubles beyond coal, corn, tobacco and rice.
The development program of this territory began with only a piece of land and has been extended to other municipalities in the east.
Today, the project also includes the planting of a thousand hectares of coffee on the plain with irrigation system and the construction of the Nipe-Deleite canal, which will benefit about 2,000 hectares of rice.
