When inaugurating the 5-star hotel Playa Pesquero and the Holguín tourist pole on January 21, 2003, Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz stated that this facility opened, like all those of its kind in the country, for tourism of peace, health and security.

As Fidel predicted, that is how it has been in this destiny, which has maintained a gradual increase in the number of facilities and the arrival of visitors, only affected during the two years of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In this way, the airlines Sunwing, Transat, Air Canada, WestJet, Cóndor, Neos and América Airline, among others, have maintained connections with this destination, while since last December several Canadian airlines have linked Holguín with other airports in that northern nation, including Quebec, Hamilton and Ottawa, in addition to the tradicitonals Toronto and Montreal, in order to reaffirm that country as the most important issuer of vacationers to Holguín.

This tourist destination currently has 7,549 rooms in facilities, mostly Four and Five Stars, located on the Holguín coast and belonging to the Gaviota, Cubanacán and Islazul hotel chains.

In the same way, 10 popular camping sites with 341 rooms operate in the territory, as well as an extensive support infrastructure and an extra-hotel network of cafeterias, restaurants, discos and nightclubs belonging to Palmares, which complements this destination in eastern Cuba.
