61st anniversary of Special Education celebrated in Holguín

With the commitment to continue working in the search for quality in educational work, directors, teachers, workers and students of Special Education in the northeastern province of Holguín celebrated on January 4 the 61st anniversary of this teaching.
Described as a work of infinite love, Special Education emerged at the beginning of the Cuban Revolution as initiative of the Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, who little by little created benefits for the entire population.
This is how special education began to take shape on this date, whose main mission is to achieve the comprehensive development of children, adolescents and young people with special educational needs associated or not with disabilities, in any context, which allows them to face different levels of independence of their social inclusion.
Yamila Garrido Labrada, head of Special Education in the Provincial Directorate of Education, told ahora.cu that this teaching currently has an enrollment of 4,460 students in the province, distributed in five specialties and in 27 educational institutions.
Among the most significant achievements from the point of view of development and evolution in the ways of attending to this segment of the school population, she referred to the 58 educational projects of groups to which community agents and agencies are integrated, and 27 institutional projects that respond to the improvement of the General Education System, belonging to the Human Development, Equity and Social Justice macro program, which allows teaching tasks and activities to be carried out with higher quality and according to the mission of the educational level.
As results achieved in 2022, Garrido noted the actions planned to promote labor activity in students through work in vegetable gardens, plots and their link with urban gardens, as well as the best use of land in educational institutions, in which food is produced for self-consumption.
For this year, Special Education has among its priorities the doctoral training of directives and teachers, with emphasis on municipal structures and educational institutions, as well as the evaluation of the impact of research projects results in raising the quality of the educational process, as part of government management from science and innovation.
The actions of preventive-educational work, the strengthening of ideological political work and education in values in children, adolescents and young people using the potential of the school, the family and the community are other tasks to be addressed along with the priorities that established by the Cuban educational system.
