Cuban Deputy Prime Minister Inés María Chapman Waugh on Friday checked the situation of water supply in the municipalities of Banes, Antilla and the tourist poles of Holguín province.
In the working visit, she was informed that the supply cycles of more than 15 days continue in some communities, difficulties have arisen in the water supply systems of the Guardalavaca-Pesquero tourist pole, while Ramón de Antilla remains stable.
Antonio Rodríguez Rodríguez, president of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources, explained that due to the energy contingency, the highest cycles of water supply in the country are in Holguín, so that together with the Electric Union, generator sets will be installed in some pumping stations until the national electrical system is stabilized.
He added that the planned investments in the municipality of Banes are guaranteed by having the construction force, equipment and resources to work on the hydraulic works to improve water pressure and service cycles.
The Guardalavaca area will benefit through a donation of specialized Chinese equipment to improve the maintenance of leaks, breakages, the change of pumping equipment and repair obstructions and cleaning of pits with greater agility, said Rodríguez.
The constituency delegates raised among their fundamental concerns the distribution of water by cistern trucks, affected in recent days by the rains in the areas of difficult access, as well as the attention to the Guerrero micro-dam that affects the quality of the water in health services of the municipality.
They proposed creating an industry of construction materials that would allow the territory not to depend on other provinces to solve problems, to which Chapman added that the characteristics of the municipality must be taken advantage of in order to produce its own resources.
At the meeting, where the social economic development strategy was also valued, it was learned about the agri-food issue and nutritional education under the approach of productive chains, as well as the management of local tourism based on innovation.
Other approved strategic lines are aimed at the development of important services such as transportation and trade, exportable rubles and import substitution, attention to the aqueduct-sewerage system, roads, housing and construction materials.
The deputy prime minister insisted on strengthening agricultural production in the territory, establishing an effective communication system and not admitting works that lack quality.
As part of her working agenda, Chapman Waugh made a tour of the main pipe on Carlos Manuel de Céspedes street that will benefit around 52 thousand clients and a collector in Torrenteras to improve the aqueduct and sewage services, as part of the investments undertaken in the city of Banes.
