The special education system in the province of Holguín, with more than three thousand students enrolled, creates conditions for the restart of the school year, scheduled for September 5 throughout Cuba.
Yamila Garrido, methodologist of this teaching in the eastern territory, told the ACN that the material and human resources are available in the 25 educational centers, as well as the preparation of the teaching staff and the study plans adapted to each disability, focused on self-validity and social inclusion.
According to Garrido, the students enrolled in the modalities of hospital classrooms and outpatient teachers will have programs adapted to the particularities of each one, which include apprenticeships in trades and practical life skills.
She added that the hygienic-sanitary measures established for schools will be strictly complied with, which will contribute to the protection of children who are highly vulnerable to diseases of the immune system.
The special education program, created in 1961 by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro, as a set of corrective-compensatory and comprehensive rehabilitation activities, is one of the achievements of the Cuban social project with the greatest human impact since 1959.
Holguín has reference centers within this teaching, among them The Golden Age, Haydeé Santamaría and Reinerio Almaguer, located in the provincial capital and dedicated to the care of infants with visual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder and mental retardation, respectively.
