Russia is willing to study, if necessary, new oil supplies to Cuba, as well as other support measures, the Slavic country's Deputy Foreign Minister, Aleksandr Pankin, declared today.

"If necessary, we will be ready to study new oil supplies or other support measures," the diplomat told the press this Thursday, noting that crude oil shipments to the Caribbean nation are subject to numerous limitations.

Pankin also emphasized that Moscow respects Havana for its resilience. "It is a country that we truly respect for its firmness and its ability to live under sanctions and embargos for so many years," he indicated.

"Undoubtedly, we have a plan for cooperation and support for Cuba," the Deputy Foreign Minister added.

The situation in Cuba has deteriorated drastically since late January 2026, following the implementation of measures by the United States aimed at completely blocking fuel supplies to the island.

The energy situation has become critical: in March, the national power grid failed three times, causing long blackouts across the country. At the same time, the nation suffers from a severe shortage of gasoline and diesel.

Some foreign airlines announced the suspension of flights to Cuba due to the lack of jet fuel at its airports, which makes refueling impossible. (Source: News Agency)
