The social inclusion of people with disabilities in Cuba focused the debates of a workshop dedicated to this topic in the city of Holguin, as part of the programs of attention to this sector of the population in the Caribbean island.
The meeting was attended by members of the National Association of the Blind (ANCI), the Cuban Association for physically and Motor Limited People (ACLIFIM) and the National Association of Deaf People of Cuba (ANSOC), which group more than seven thousand people in the eastern territory.
Norberto Nate, president of ANCI, presented the programs to achieve a higher quality of life in this segment of the population, including access to new communication technologies, culture and art.

Nate highlighted sports practices and rehabilitation tourism clubs, where blind people come into contact with nature and acquire skills in handling the cane and mobility in open spaces.
Omar Romero, representative of the ACLIFIM, noted to the ACN the need to extend the elimination of architectural barriers, which have a negative impact on the access of the disabled to different premises.

In Holguin, there are institutions dedicated to facilitate social inclusion, such as the Modesto Fornaris Psychopedagogical Medical Center, which has a comprehensive rehabilitation system that includes art expressions and daily actions learning, including combing and eating, which provides greater autonomy.
