Circulo Infantil 1Fotos: Radio Cubana y ACNHolguin marked on Tuesday the 57th anniversary of the creation of day care centers, an idea that emerged to protect the rights of working mothers, at a time when women began to occupy different responsibilities in Cuban society.

From Vilma Espin Guillois, president of the Cuban Women Federation until her death, and Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, emerged the effort to promote the work, which today welcomes more than nine thousand 600 children in the province of Holguin.

These centers for domestic care in the first years of their foundation have become educational institutions, where teaching staffs, activities to favor the development of motor skills, language, relationship of the child with the environment, world of objects, formal education habits and the link with families, occupy the daily work.

Yaima Cruz de la Cruz, head of Early Childhood Education in the northeastern Cuban province, highlighted the results achieved and explained some of the tasks in which the education system is currently involved, such as the Third Improvement of Education being carried out at the Amiguitos de la Paz day care center, in the municipality of Holguin.

Circulo Infantil 2Actions include the introduction of new computer technologies in the educational process, the learning of foreign languages, the new requirements for methodological work and with the family, which will contribute to improve the work of the day care centers in a medium-term period.

She pointed out that there are various child care facilities undergoing repair and maintenance works, mainly the hydrosanitary and carpentry network.

Cruz also commented that 17 educational institutions have received modules of toys and musical instruments of Chinese manufacturing, as part of a national project of the Demographic Commission for the care of mothers and in favor of the natality. These benefits will gradually reach the 62 day care centers in the province.

On the challenges faced by these institutions for the care of children, the head of Education for early childhood, highlighted the completion of the teaching staff, which requires special attention for its complexity, because despite working in vocational training to increase the registration to bachelor degrees in the preschool education and the training of teachers in this specialty in the pedagogical schools, there’s still a need of the teaching staff, a problem affecting the Education sector in the province.
