The Provincial Directorate of Public Health in Holguín applies new protocols for the isolation of suspected cases and contacts of positives to SarsCOV-2, in accordance with the provisions to expand the domiciliary admission established due to the high incidence of the disease in several Cuban provinces.

In meeting with the local press, Katia María Ochoa, director of Public Health in the province, said that according to the new protocol, low-risk patients and contacts of confirmed cases will remain in their homes with daily monitoring by the doctor and the family nurse.

She pointed out that the social actors of each community have an essential role along with the health authorities to contribute to compliance with biosafety measures, including social distancing, hand washing and the use of the nasobuco (face mask).

Ochoa added that conditions have been created in the polyclinics, where there is a specialized consultation in the emergency room, in which the particularities of each case are evaluated by a rapid response group for emergency care, in the midst of the confrontation to the pandemic.

For her part, Amarilis Pupo, director of the Provincial Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology, also highlighted the importance of communication between the doctor and the people who remain at home, with the aim of timely reporting the appearance or aggravation symptoms.

In the last 15 days, Holguín reports 3,548 positive cases for COVID-19, with high complexity in the municipalities of Cueto, Moa and the provincial capital and an incidence rate of patients higher than 336 patients per 100,000 inhabitants.

The eastern territory has also increased the diagnoses of older adults and patients in pediatric ages, vulnerable to developing serious forms of the disease and some 64 centers are maintained for the admission and isolation of confirmed and suspected cases and the availability of beds for medical care in the 14 municipalities.
