In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic and the intensification of the U.S. economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba, the province of Holguín is involved in complying with the main economic indicators, although forecasts predict that, for the first time in several years, the State budget expenditures in this territory exceed the income contributed.

It is estimated that 35 exportable items will be captured, however, eight productions will remain below plan, such as the Vegetable Carbon, Benefited Bee Honey, Zeolite, Sintered Nickel Oxide, while local industries manufactured fewer Fiber Dolls, Bamboo Furniture and Bamboo Dividers.

More than 100 physical productions, including 70 manufacturing and 46 agricultural productions will not meet the plans, which will require better planning and organization of production processes by 2021.

As production falls, Retail Trade Circulation in the province is also impacted, which is expected to only reach 2,136.0 million pesos, 86 percent of the plan, at the close of the fiscal year.

Among the entities most affected by the deficits are the Business Group of Commerce, Sports, Education, EXPO-HOLGUÍN, Pharmacies and Optics, Health Services, Acopio business group and several organizations of the ministries of Construction, Agriculture, the food industry, Energy and mines, while the Local Bodies of People's Power will have negative impacts on their economic balances and the fulfillment of their plans.

However, according to information from the Ministry of Economy and Planning in the province, it is estimated that the Gross Value Added will reach 2,568.0 million, for 105 percent compliance and the employment and salary indicators will end with satisfactory results, with the productivity growth.

The economic balance of Holguín has been affected by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the multiple expenses during the phase of confrontation with the pandemic, preventive health actions in municipalities affected by arbovirosis, the lack of raw materials for industries, effects on the agricultural sector, among many other factors that impact the production of goods and services.
