The University of Holguín is getting ready for the next school year to start in February 2021, as directed by the Ministry of Higher Education in order to standardize the opening of this school stage in all the country's universities.
Dr. C Isabel Cristina Torres Torres, rector of the House of Higher Studies, meant the great challenge that the academic institution has in organizing the new academic course, which will have other characteristics.
"In previous school stages the institution worked by semesters, but the coming school year will take place in academic periods and will not have the same number of weeks," she said.
The first period, projected in the months of February until July, will have more face-to-face weeks and will concentrate the bulk of the subjects. These adjustments require in-depth methodological work by career groups to organize the curriculum and final evaluations according to the new structure with all the quality that all processes imply.
In this regard, Torres explained that each period will close with a final evaluation system, extraordinary examinations and the so-called world examinations, a novelty that favors students, since they will have more opportunities to validate their knowledge, which helps to have more successes in the process training of the new professional.
"We will have a break after completing the first period with all the corresponding evaluative results closed, this will be followed by the second school period from September to December 2021, when the final, extraordinary and special end-of-year exams will be held.
“It will be an atypical school year, in which the graduation date scheduled for the last month of the year will also vary, which leads to a greater effort by the teaching staff, workers and students to develop a successful stage and prepare to submit to the institution to the external evaluation process in 2022 ”, Torres concluded.
