The Territorial Center for Infertile Couple Care in the province of Holguín has among its results in 2019 the achievement of more than 180 pregnancies through high technology care.

The procedures consist of in vitro fertilization and ovodonation, which is the fertilization of the ovum by the sperm in an artificial environment, outside the mother's body, and their donation to females without ovarian reserve.

Dr. Eloy Verdecia, head of assisted reproduction service, said to the ACN that the techniques favor women with peritoneal tube factor or clogged tubes, ectopic pregnancies, ligatures, or those with more than 40 years, which constitute an impediment to achieve a pregnancy.

He noted that the medical team at the center also performs artificial insemination, tubal surgery and varicocele surgery in the case of men, procedures considered of low complexity.

This program is also extended to the 14 Holguín municipalities, where couples with more than one year of stable relationships who do not achieve pregnancy in a conventional manner receive attention.

The Provincial Center of Attention to the Infertile Couple, located in areas of the Vladimir Ilich Lenin University Hospital, in the city of Holguin, began operating in 2011 and since June 2014 performs the procedures of high complexity.

It currently also benefits patients from Guantanamo, Granma, Santiago de Cuba, and Las Tunas, and will soon have the vitrification of embryos and gametes, which will allow the freezing of embryos in liquid hydrogen for later use.
