Holguín to host Traveling Surgery Congress

Holguín will hold the 2025 Traveling Congress on October 27 and 28, aimed at contributing to the improvement of the specialty of surgery with a multidisciplinary approach.

The event is sponsored by the Cuban Society of Surgery, its Holguín Chapter, the Provincial Group of the specialty, the Provincial Council of Scientific Societies of the sector, and the General Directorate of Health.

According to the event program, the activities designed will promote exchange among surgical professionals from different Cuban hospitals, discuss current challenges and future prospects, and join efforts to improve the quality of care for surgical patients.

Participants will visit the surgical departments of the Lucía Íñiguez and Vladimir Ilich Lenin provincial hospitals to hold a discussion on topics related to the history of surgery, patient safety, surgical conditions, advanced technologies, professional training, development of the specialty, and the core values of the general surgeon.

The Congress will open on the 28th at the Pernik Hotel with an inaugural lecture by Dr. Orestes Noel Mederos Curbelo, head of the national surgery group, who will discuss the history of esophageal surgery in Cuba.

About 10 research projects by professors from the province of Holguín and Havana will be presented during the conference, including Safe Surgery: Evidence, Challenges, and Leadership, by Dr. Luis Mario Carrasco Feria, director of the Lucía Íñiguez Landín Clinical and Surgical Hospital and head of the specialty group in Holguín.

Other topics for debates will include Bethesda III and IV Thyroid Nodules. Dilemmas and Evidence, by Dr. C. Nerza Enid Peña Pupo; Management of Open Pneumothorax: Proposed Clinical Classification, by Dr. C. Armando Leal Mursuli, from Havana; and Reperfusion Therapy for Intestinal Ischemia: An Experimental Study, by Dr. Juan Carlos Pérez Cuenca, from the municipality of Gibara.
