The strategy implemented for the improvement of the Family Doctor and Nurse Program (PMEF), begins to show results in Holguín, where there are 1,155 medical offices throughout the entire territory, including the most intricate areas of the Turquino Plan.
Dr. Elizabeth Bichara, head of the Department of Primary Health Care (DPS) in the province, explained that the actions aimed at rescuing the founding elements of this plan, which in January 2024 reaches its 40th anniversary, show results by directing them to essential issues, such as the strengthening of management (cadres) from the doctor's office, polyclinics, municipalities and the province.
The Program has also directed its actions towards the strengthening of medical care, for which all the clinics have guaranteed the medical and nursing staff, of which 922 have specialists in Comprehensive General Medicine (MGI).
Likewise, they are working on the reorganization of the communities to ensure that the CMFs have a population of less than a thousand patients and in the Basic Work Groups program it was determined that they should attend to up to 10 health teams.
On the other hand, teaching and research actions have allowed more than 203 doctors to achieve the category of Second Degree specialists while others have finished their specialty.
In this regard, the second virtual event of Primary Health Care was held in the municipality of Gibara, with international viewing.
In order to improve the working and living conditions of the Family Doctors and Nurses, is carried out a plan for the repair and maintenance of offices, which in 2022 made possible the renovation of 96 of these premises, while 46 are planned in the program for this year.
The PHC Directorate carried out a survey of 164 rural neighborhoods, to provide differentiated care by the basic health teams and complete community intervention on Saturdays, with the different specialties and services.
As a result of all this work, more than 2 million consultations were offered in the network of medical offices in the first quarter of 2023, thus reducing the influx of patients to the Emergency Departments of polyclinics and hospitals.
