In Holguín, First Traveling Congress of Ophthalmology

The sessions of the First Itinerant Congress of Ophthalmology will conclude in Holguín, on May 17, after its development throughout the country since March, under the auspices of the Cuban Society of this medical specialty and the Ramón Pando Ferrer Cuban Institute of Ophthalmology.
This scientific activity, directed by Dr. C. Raúl Hernández Silva, president of the Cuban Society of Ophthalmology, will also have the participation of five other outstanding specialists from the Cuban Institute of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Boris Carballo Hechavarría, general director of the Holguín Ophthalmology Center, said that the event aims to "update professionals on the most important diagnostic and therapeutic advances in specialty issues, such as glaucoma, cataract, refractive surgery, pediatric ophthalmology, cornea and retina.
The sessions of the Congress in this eastern province will be held at the Expo-Holguín fairgrounds, where more than a hundred professionals linked to Ophthalmology will participate in the scientific exchange, including specialists, residents, optometrists and Nursing graduates.
According to the Organizing Committee, experts will give lectures on topics of interest and current affairs in the specialty; they will also present the programs of three new master's degrees in Ophthalmology.
On March 5, the First Traveling National Congress of Ophthalmology began in the province of Pinar del Río, as a proposal by the board of directors of the Cuban Society of Ophthalmology and the Ramón Pando Ferrer Cuban Institute of Ophthalmology.
The Holguín Ophthalmology Center, attached to the Lucía Íñiguez Landín Surgical Clinical Hospital, is equipped with the highest technology in its more than 30 consultations, departments and has a surgical unit of national reference in the treatment of visual disorders, and highly trained personnel.
