The exhibition "Holguin, history and tradition" was opened on Wednesday at the Museum Casa Natal del Mayor General Calixto García Iñiguez, as part of the activities for the 300th anniversary of the founding of the town of Holguin to be celebrated on April 4.
Yanelis Perez Pupo, programmer of the museum, said to the local newspaper ¡ahora! that the exhibit represents the symbols of the territory, including the Aldabón de La Periquera, the Ax, Shield and Hymn, which are accompanied by an explanation of their meaning and details of interest to visitors.
The replicas of the Aldabón de La Periquera, the Ax and Shield are the top recognitions granted by the Provincial Government to prominent personalities in the town and the nation, especially in the culture sector, she said.
Pérez Pupo added that the exhibit will be open to the public until April in the Mudejar-style house located in the historic center of the city, which treasures biographies, documents related to the History of Cuba, Calixto García and the Iñiguez family.
The agenda to commemorate the 300 years of the town of Holguin aims to achieve a greater participation of adolescents, who will be able to enrich their knowledge through exchanges with historians and specialists in the field, she added.
Activities planned also include conferences, panels and contests of interest for the public, especially children, young people and older adults.
The Museo Casa Natal de Calixto García was declared a National Monument in 1978 and is inserted in the cultural panorama of the Cuban city of parks as the scene of important events, including the National Meeting of Studies on Independence Wars.
