In the municipalities of the Turquino Plan of Holguín, the conservation of the cultural heritage was among the most important actions carried out in 2019. Even with the shortcomings of this period and the need to promote actions aimed to favor the preservation of the material and intangible heritage of this region, almost three hundred activities were carried out in the region, mainly in the municipalities of Moa, Sagua de Tánamo and Frank País.
The activities included conferences, conversations and competitions with great participation of the community. Actions such as the “Alejandro de Humboldt” mountain race and the exhibition of handmade natural fiber items made by children from the municipality of Moa, competition of dancers in the municipality of Frank País, museum activities at the Mountain Book Fair, as well as the celebration of the 205th anniversary of the Tumba Francesa de Bejuco, in Sagua de Tánamo, were also among the activities developed.
Special emphasis was placed on the protection of the environment, specifically of the natural sites of each territory.
In this regard, all the municipalities of the Turquino Plan celebrated World Environment Day, highlighting “Frank País” with actions carried out by students and workers, who participated in the environmental sanitation and mangrove planting in four vulnerable areas of the Cayo Mambí coastline.
The activities carried out for the preservation of heritage were also supported by promoters, amateur artists, members of the culture centers and sectors such as culture and sports.
