Holguín Celebrates 266th Anniversary

The event, aimed at promoting history, culture and traditions of the territory, is dedicated to local artist Argelio Cobiellas and cultural promoter, Jesús Téllez.
The Culture Week is also dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the death of Major General Calixto García Íñiguez and the 40th anniversary of the creation of the Culture Centers System.
Among other activities, the agenda for the event includes the traditional parade on January 15 at 4:00 pm from the House of Lieutenant to Governor, the oldest one conserved in the territory, to the Calixto García Central Park, while the opening gala will take place an hour later on the stage located in front of the Casa de Cultura Manuel Dositeo Aguilera, according to LisandraPoll, programmer of the Municipal Culture Directorate.
The opening of the City Hall in the Provincial Center of Plastic Arts, a concert of the Hermanos Avilés centenary Orchestra and the great cultural evening event awaiting the anniversary of the City in front of the San Isidoro Cathedral of Holguín, are scheduled on January 17th.
The celebration also includes the event Independence Wars at the museum Casa Natal Calixto García, with the presentation of papers related to this chapter of the History of Cuba linked to our region.
The Culture Week will pay homage to the outstanding sons of the city on January 18th at the provincial museum La Periquera, while the City Awards will be granted on January 20th to the best creators of the territory.
