José Abreu Cardet received the National Award of History 2018 for the Work of All Life, to become the first Holguín intellectual that deserves such high recognition in Cuba.
Born on July 4, 1951, and graduated from the University of Pedagogical Sciences Of Havana in 1976, Abreu Cardet currently works as a researcher at the Office of Monuments and Historical Sites of the Provincial Cultural Heritage Center in Holguín.
He is an Assistant researcher at the Ministry of Culture, an associate professor at the University of Holguín and a Master's Degree in History and Culture. He work includes thirty books of his authorship or as a co-author in which he stresses his concern to perpetuate the local history in print.
Among his several awards stands out the Ramiro Guerra National Prize, for the book " Valoración Múltiple de Antonio Maceo "; four "Holguín City Prizes" in the specialty of history, granted by the Directorate of Culture in Holguín, the Regino Boti Award in History, and the José María Heredia National Award of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba.
He has won the Shield of the province of Holguín, the Distinction for National Culture, among other important national and international distinctions.
