The concert of the Holguín Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Mexican maestro Jorge Vazquez, with New Zealand violinist Amalia Hall as guest, tops the list of nominees for the Suceso Cultural (Cultural Event) Award, during the past 2024 in this eastern Cuban city.
The jury, made up of press professionals accredited in the territory, also included among the proposals the concert of troubadour Norberto Leyva, in Nicaro, a performance that marked the beginning of the presentation tour of his album Dejame soñar (Let me dream).
The results of the Artistic Education system that made the province worthy of hosting the national event for the beginning of the school year at this educational level, as well as the repercussion of the debates of the sixth day of theory and criticism of visual arts A Shot in the Hole, were also considered for the award.
The journalists considered the development of lyrical values among students at the Holguín branch of the University of the Arts, through the first Maria Dolores Rodriguez In Memoriam Singing Contest, and the celebrations for the 65th anniversary of the Alex Urquiola Provincial Library.
Other candidates for the award are the socio-cultural and community impact of the first oral storytelling festival El Mundo de Palabras (The World of Words), the promotion of choral music materialized in the Vocalis meeting, and the rescue of film exhibition and the spaces for audiovisual criticism and promotion promoted by the Provincial Film Center.
The Suceso Cultural Award has been granted since 2012 by the Provincial Directorate of Culture through the La Luz Communication Center and the circle specialized in the subject of the Union of Journalists of Cuba, with the aim of encouraging and motivating artistic creation in Holguín. (Source: ACN)
