The Adelaida del Mármol National Poetry Prize calls for its 20th edition, organized by the Pedro Ortiz Domínguez Center for the Promotion and Development of Literature, the Provincial Center for Books and Literature, and the Ediciones Holguín publishing house.
Cuban writers residing in the country can participate in the contest, with an unpublished book with a free theme and an extension between 60 and 80 pages, the writer Moisés Mayán, a specialist at the Pedro Ortiz Promotion Center, told ACN.
The notebooks, he explained, will be sent via e-mail in two files, one with the work in competition, accompanied by a pseudonym, and the other with the author's data to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
In this way, in the second file, the title of the work, name and surname, pseudonym, identity number, telephone, e-mail and a brief biographical file must be recorded.
Until October 15, those interested will be able to send their works, which will be evaluated by a jury made up of prestigious poets. The award will be announced at the Ibero-American Culture Festival, to be held from October 24 and 30 in Holguín.
The prize consists on the publication of the text by Ediciones Holguín, with its respective payment for copyright in the first edition and 10 thousand pesos in national currency. Participation in the contest implies acceptance of the rules, so works that do not meet the requirements will be disqualified, he added.
Emerged in 1989, the first book awarded in the contest was Witness of the days, by Alejandro Fonseca, with a jury made up of Guillermo Rodríguez Rivera, Paco Mir and José Luis Moreno del Toro.
Other winners have been Odette Alonso, Lourdes González, Jesús David Curbelo, Roberto Manzano, Luis Yuseff and José Luis Serrano, while David Chericián, Marilyn Bobes, Roberto Méndez, Alberto Garrido or Delfín Prats have made up the jury for this award that recalls Holguín poet Adelaida del Mármol, considered the most important local lyrical voice of the 19th century.
