The book "Women who did not love men" by Holguín writer Katerine Perzant was awarded this Saturday with the Celestino Short Story Prize, a literary contest sponsored each year by the Ediciones La Luz publishing house of the Hermanos Saíz Association in this province.
The jury made up of the essayist Alberto Garrandés, writer Elaine Vilar Madruga and editor Adalberto Santos, valued some 29 unpublished books by young authors representing most of the Cuban provinces.
"The women who did not love men" highlights the invoicing of the type of writing that this book defends through a voice of elegant sobriety that puts into practice with a certain estrangement a world own, whose characters fearlessly seek to explore their inner landscape and turn everyday existence into a territory for the adventure of knowledge, according to the jury.
In addition to the possibility of seeing her text published by "La Luz", Katerine Perzant received the corresponding accrediting diploma as well as an original work by the master of the plastic arts Cosme Proenza, a collaborator of the contest.
Regarding the winning text, the author explained to the press that the volume contains some 10 stories that talk about heartbreak as well as the anguish of her generation, stories that she wrote between her 20 and 25 years and rewrote in times of pandemic, work to which she is particularly interested.
She thanked the jury and expressed her pride in obtaining the Celestino Prize awarded by Ediciones La Luz.
Dedicated to the 110 years of the controversial and fascinating Cuban writer Virgilio Piñera, the Celestino de Cuentos, which has already opened the call for its next edition in 2023, developed an extensive program of activities since last June 15, including exhibitions, talks , readings and publishing news.
