The Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS) and the Provincial Directorate of Culture in Holguín call for the 29th edition of the Romerías de Mayo from May 2 to 8.
The organizers invite musicians, actors, audiovisual producers, researchers, dancers, writers, painters and cultural promoters to participate in this festival of tradition and modernity.
Norge Luis Labrada, president of the AHS in the province, said to the ACN that this year’s edition will be dedicated to young people and the peace of the people, as well as to the 65th anniversary of the assassination of the Sergio and Luis Saiz Montes de Oca brothers.
On this occasion, the Romerías will also join the celebrations for the 25th anniversary of Cervecería Bucanero, a company that has accompanied the event and has influenced the socio-cultural development of the country.
The Festival is aimed at joining tradition and modernity together in defense of the cultural and identity values of our peoples, because “there is no today without yesterday”, an idea defended by the AHS, the host organization of this multicultural event of young art, added Norge Luis.
The event’s agenda includes the International Congress of Thought Memoria Nuestra (Our Memory), dedicated to research and reflection as a platform for the confluence of decolonization and identity, as well as the Camara Azul (Blue Camera) event, to screen films, and the traditional Fiesta de los Abrazos (Festival of Embraces).
Musical groups, dance and theater companies, researchers, writers, cultural promoters and painters will gather to be part of this Festival of Traditions and Modernity.
According to promoters, the event will focus on the universality of regional cultures, the interrelation between the arts and generations, experimental and avant-garde exercises and a well-deserved tribute to the founding fathers.
Promoted by the Hermanos Saiz Association, since 1992 Romerias de Mayo have been projected as a bastion of cultural diversity and a vehicle for artists to find communication and peace through exchange.
