The exhibition "16 marvellous characters and... Miguel de Cervantes” was opened at the Provincial Art Center of Holguin, as preamble of the 27th Book Fair taking place in this eastern Cuban city.
From Cervantes is known the book "The ingenious Hidalgo Don Quixote de la Mancha", which we all think we have read, as the poet José Luis Serrano expressed in the opening remarks. However, other Cervantes characters no less attractive and picturesque, which draw the immense figure of the writer in history, are ignored.
Pieces with almost two meters of height, with forms of open books, show in images and words some characters from their first creation, "La Galatea" (1985) to "The works of Persiles and Sigismunda", published posthumously in 1617.
The exhibition hall has long table with the chronology of the hazardous life of the also known as "Manco de Lepanto". The viewer is also warned that he will enter a magical place where there are sets of mirrors, glass jars, a maze of cards, shrinking moons and rain of coins.
The gallery is an invitation to read, as it recreates some attractive passages of the work on which the paintings are based.
After the visual enjoyment of this interactive exhibition for which 3D glasses are required, there’s an increasing interest of the public to know more about the Licentiate Vidriera, Doña Lorenza, Rinconete and Cortadillo or the vicissitudes of the Gran Sultana to achieve the conditions imposed for her marriage to the great Turk.
The collection, received by the National Center for Performing Arts in Cuba through the Embassy of Spain, will be open to the public in Holguin during the month of April.
