The feature film “La trilla de un frijol” by the Taguabo Project in Holguín, contributes to preserve and disseminate the most indigenous values of culture among the new generations in this eastern Cuban province.

With the collaboration of the Community Initiative Exchange and Reference Center, the project emerged in 2008 and its name refers to the god of rain and fertility in a territory marked by various words from the language of native peoples.

Its coordinator Alfonso Bandera said to the !ahora! digital newspaper that the film is in the post-production phase and presents social problems such as corruption and prostitution.

Bandera, who is also the script writer and director of the film, added that the photography direction was in charge of Frank Batista, while the actors Olmides Monje and Rosilema Rodríguez played the leading roles.

He pointed out that during these months of confinement due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the project accompanied the communication campaign on this disease by carrying out messages of public good and testimonial capsules.

He added that the project, whose thematic axis is the history and traditions of the town, also addresses the defense of the environment and the work with children and adolescents to consolidate creative capacities from the community.

The production of various documentaries that reveal cultural passages, not always known by the people of Holguín, have been collected in testimonies of great value such as that of the Gibara musician Manuel Galván, one of the founders of "Los Zafiros", the story of Juana de la Torre, Lidia Doce and Clodomira Acosta, courageous women frm the eastern territory who played an important role during the independence processes of Cuba, Bandera added.

He highlighted among Taguabo's production the making of the awaited long- film “El último juglar” about the life and work of Faustino Oramas “el Guayabero”, who occupied a distinctive place on the musical staff of the Caribbean Island.
