"Cuban pedagogy is consistent with the legal system established in the Constitution of the Republic," said Dr. Eugenio González Pérez, deputy minister of Education, in a dialogue with Granma on classroom studies of Cuba’s new Constitution proclaimed April 10, and recently approved laws on national symbols and elections.
“The Electoral Law, the Law of National Symbols and the Constitution of the Republic themselves are valuable components with curricular and extracurricular dimensions. In civic education and citizenship classes, we will address the contents of these three documents. In middle school, in all three grades, each one of the Constitution of the Republic’s chapters will be addressed. For this purpose, 30,000 printed copies are currently being distributed for this educational level, although the text will gradually reach all levels of education.”
Deputy Minister Dania López Gulbones commented that work with the national symbols, like the national anthem, including methodological issues with the teachers, will be reinforced. “We have a whole system of preparation for Cuban families with the family education school, which aims to prepare them to support students in understanding and respect for the country’s symbols. If we prepare our students and their families, we are preparing the country,” she concluded. / Granma
