The Executive Director of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTED), Michele Coninsx, is calling today to put into practice ideas and mechanisms to fight against this scourge.

Coninsx, who is participating in the first UN meeting of leaders of counter-terrorism agencies from around the world, stressed the necessity of having the appropriate information and networks to address the problem at the international level.

It is necessary to involve different sectors in this effort and to do so at various levels: regional, national and local, the high representative said.

Regarding the event on the fight against terrorism which concludes today at the UN headquarters in New York, Coninsx referred to the possibilities it opens to share good practices and experiences.

According to the Executive Director of the CTED, the main question is how the UN can support the work of countries in their fight against terrorism.

Discussions in this final session will address the role of women and young people in counter-terrorism actions, and experts and civil society will participate in the discussions.

The initial session on Thursday did not include representatives of the non-civil society and this generated some criticism and questioning.

According to Vassily Nebenzia, Russia's permanent representative to the UN, civil society was not denied participation in the event only that the first day focused on the dialogues between professionals and counter-terrorism agencies, in which very sensitive issues were addressed.

In addition, the Russian diplomat stressed the need to involve all sectors in the fight against this scourge. / Prensa Latina
