National Assembly of People's Power: Cuba in the face of the pandemic

The Cuban Minister of Public Health, José Ángel Portal Miranda, presented to the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP) detailed information on the influence of COVID-19 in the world, America and Cuba, where reports of the numbers of infected people and deaths have grown in our region, as well as the new outbreak in countries of Europe and Asia.
In Cuba, the work has focused on preventing the population from getting sick, therefore it plays an important role the health system in Cuba, which currently has 9 doctors per thousand inhabitants and increases the number of molecular biology laboratories to guarantee the largest number of PCR studies possible, said Portal Miranda.
Regarding how the pandemic is being experienced in the country today, the Minister said that in the last 14 days 525 cases have been reported while five provinces have active transmission: Pinar del Rio, Ciego de Ávila, Sancti Spirit, Havana, and Artemisa .

He pointed out the importance of the 700 researches that have been conducted, which include 17 clinical studies and trials. Professional experts designed a protocol for pandemic management that includes preventive, mental health aspects, the improvement of the scenarios, the results of investigations and the observations of our specialists.
He also highlighted the work carried out in the community, especially doctors, office nurses and students, of having a biopharmaceutical and biotechnology industry, as well as the impact of Cuban interferon in alternative and prophylactic therapeutics.
He said that the work of the Government, as suggested by the Cuban president Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermúdez, is vital in the midst of the difficult scenario the country is facing in order to move forward in the face of the impact of the US Blockade and COVID-19 pandemic, when our nation directs its steps towards the new normal.
In their speeches, the deputies highlighted the role of mass organizations and community groups in the fight against COVID-19 in the neighborhoods, the organization of sales and other details that show the importance of unity and the vitality of the socialist system.
Esteban Lazo Hernández, president of the ANPP, highlighted the value of the testimonies provided by the deputies about the integrative work carried out by them in their communities during the pandemic.
