The Holguín judoka Marlon Herrera won the bronze medal in the 73-kilogram division at the Central American and Caribbean Judo Cup, held in Guatemala.

Herrera defeated Colombian Juan Hernández by ippon, demonstrating technical mastery from the opening stages of the match. However, in the quarterfinals, he lost by the same score to Mexican Eduardo Araujo, a result that sent him to the repechage round.

In his first repechage match, the Holguín judoka defeated Alejandro Mora of Costa Rica by ippon, and repeated the feat against Guatemalan Héctor Guerra, securing his place in the medal round. In the bronze medal match, Herrera sealed his performance with another ippon, this time against Colombian Andrés Sandoval, thus securing another podium finish in his career.

This result reinforces the judoka's excellent form, following his recent victory at the Regional Cup in Panama. Furthermore, the bronze medal in Guatemala earns him valuable points in the qualifying rankings for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo.
