Two athletes from Holguín will be part of the Cuban delegation competing in the 2025 Deaflympics in Tokyo, an event taking place from November 15 to 26.

Their participation marks an important achievement for sports in Holguín and reflects the growth of table tennis in the province.

Both athletes, Dianka Montero Rojas and Alexander Lobaina Mellina, are members of Cuba’s table tennis team that will travel to the Japanese capital. Montero, a seasoned player and multiple Pan American medalist, will lead the squad, while Lobaina, the younger athlete, aims to establish himself as a rising talent.

The national team also includes Yeandris Alcolea Martínez from Santiago de Cuba and Yunisleidy Ortiz Martínez from Matanzas. All four players will compete in the three available categories: singles, doubles, and mixed doubles, with the goal of achieving strong results for Cuba at this international event.

Dianka Montero told the sports website Jit that their preparation has been intense and full of dedication. She expressed confidence in earning medals and stated that she dedicates her effort and victories to her family and the deaf community, hoping to show what people with hearing impairments can accomplish.

The inclusion of table tennis completes the five sports in which Cuba will participate at the Deaflympics, alongside athletics, cycling, wrestling, and judo.

The table tennis competitions will take place from November 18 to 21 at the Ariake Tennis Park, one of the main venues of the event.
