Holguín cyclist Evelyn Díaz Matos won the bronze medal in the women's elite road race at the Caribbean Elite Road Cycling Championship, held in Belize, securing a ticket to the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games.

In the competition, she was only surpassed by Teniel Campbell of Trinidad and Tobago and Gabriella Arnold of Bermuda. Her third-place finish guarantees Cuba's presence on the road race at the upcoming regional Games.

The Cuban delegation won four medals and three qualifying spots. In the women's event, Lianni Mesa shined with gold in the U23 time trial and bronze in the U23 road race, while among the men, José Alberto Domínguez González earned silver in the U23 category and a spot in the men's road race.

In this way, Cuban cycling secured three of the four possible places: women's time trial, women's road race, and men's road race. Only the men's time trial remained pending due to a technical issue that prevented the national representative from competing.

She currently holds 658th place in the International Cycling Union's World Rankings. This result also improves on her previous performances in this type of championship, having achieved sixth place in 2022 and ninth in 2021.

Díaz has won multiple medals in national competitions in both youth and senior categories and also participated in the First Junior Pan American Games Cali-Valle 2021. With this qualification, she is preparing to face new international challenges.
