The University of Holguín recently inaugurated the Doctoral School for Engineering Development, a new academic space for training the human capital that will ensure the implementation of a group of scientific projects aimed at driving progress in the province and the country in the areas of governance, energy, agriculture, and the creation of platforms and software based on smart service solutions.

The school is part of a project called CRISSS related to the creation of research and innovation capacities at the Holguin University, in joint work with Belgian universities and the funding of the Flemish Interuniversity Council (VLIR).

Among the benefits of this initiative is the doctoral program, with dual academic degrees between the aforementioned universities, which also has the approval of the National Commission of Scientific Degrees and opens a stable path of high-level doctoral training, stated Dr. C. Aniuska Ortiz Pérez, rector of the Holguín University, at the opening meeting, held in the institution's 25th Anniversary Hall.

For her part, Dr. Jenny Ruiz de la Peña, Director of International Relations and coordinator of the project on the Cuban side, explained that the school represents an opportunity for advanced training and a way to bring into dialogue diverse knowledge, experiences and perspectives, which will allow students and teachers to participate in broader academic communities, and connect research conducted in Holguín with international collaboration networks.

With this inauguration, the University of Holguín consolidates its internationalization strategy and its commitment to scientific development as an engine of social transformation in the search for solutions that can generate concrete impacts on the economy, society and the territory.
