The Solidarity Brigade with Cuba, composed of young people from Italy and Portugal, arrived in Holguín as part of the activities marking the centenary of Fidel Castro’s birth.
They landed at Frank País International Airport on a direct flight from Rome, driven by the belief that “love is repaid with love” and reaffirming that Cuba is not alone in facing the U.S. blockade.

Georgia Vernetti, coordinator of the Italian initiative Let Cuba Breathe, explained that the group includes 46 young people inspired by the example of the Cuban people and by the medical aid the island provided to Turin during the COVID-19 pandemic.

She emphasized that the brigade was organized as a gesture of solidarity toward a nation that, in her words, “is being suffocated by the United States administration.”
The brigade, which also includes 10 members of a Portuguese collective, will deliver aid to healthcare and educational centers in the provinces of Granma, Guantánamo, Santiago de Cuba, and Holguín.

Their itinerary includes a caravan to Birán to celebrate the centenary on August 13, as well as visits to emblematic sites such as the Revolution Hall at the La Periquera museum in Holguín.

All expenses for accommodation, transportation, and meals will be covered by the brigadistas themselves, in coordination with the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) in the province. They plan to continue their journey to Santa Clara and Havana, and are scheduled to return to Italy on August 21 from Holguín airport on the same Neos airline flight they arrived on.
