The Center for Health Resources, Learning, and Research (CRAIS), part of the Provincial Center for Medical Sciences Information (CPICM) in Holguín, has strengthened its role in supporting students, professionals, and the general public by improving the quality and scope of library services through the introduction of new technologies and modern approaches to educational and scientific management.

Founded on June 25, 2025, coinciding with the 53rd anniversary of the CPICM, CRAIS was the first of its kind within a university of medical sciences in the country. Its creation was based on a highly qualified team, suitable infrastructure, and advanced technological resources that meet the new models of higher education in Cuba.

MSc. Pedro Rafael Martínez Lozada, the center’s chief specialist, emphasized that CRAIS has become a national leader in information and knowledge management, serving as a reference for the eastern provinces of the country. From there, it provides methodological support and guidance on applying best practices in information and scientific management.

Among its new services, CRAIS develops educational software, mobile applications (APKs), and operates an educational technology observatory focused on the pedagogical use of ICT in teaching and learning processes, both undergraduate and postgraduate. It also designs digital and graphic teaching materials—such as specialized images, diplomas, and promotional materials—that enhance educational activities.

Lastly, the center has incorporated information metric studies, a key tool for researchers and doctoral candidates that allows the analysis of ongoing research.

CRAIS also promotes training in informational competencies, teaching health professionals how to search for, use, and share scientific literature effectively—thus strengthening the pedagogical and scientific foundations of the health system in Holguín.
