Holguín is once again represented among the elite of continental softball. Shortstop Luis Raúl Domínguez, from Sagua de Tánamo, and pitcher Rafael Guerra, from Mayarí, are part of the Cuban team that will participate in the Men's Pan American Championship, scheduled for February 21-28 in the Colombian city of Montería.
Cuba holds the ninth position in the Americas ranking and will face this championship with the goal of qualifying for major continental events.
Among its objectives are the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo and the 2027 Pan American Games in Lima.
The tournament awards five direct spots for the first phase of the next World Championship, which increases the importance of every team’s performance. For Cuba, securing one of these spots could make a major difference in its international Schedule.
In its group, Cuba shares the stage with one of the event’s favorites, Argentina, setting the stage for a highly competitive matchup. This confrontation could strongly influence Cuba’s chances of advancing.
The group is completed by Puerto Rico, Aruba, and Panama, teams with different strengths and trajectories. Cuba’s performance against these opponents will also be crucial in determining its balance and prospects in the initial phase and in future continental competitions.
