The Holguín triple jumper Andy Hechavarría Salazar, won the silver medal with a jump of 16.45 meters at the North American, Central American, and Caribbean Athletics Association Championship held in Freeport, Bahamas.

Although his mark was below his personal best of 17.00 meters and his usual performances, he upheld Cuba’s prestige in this discipline. The gold medal went to Bahamian Kaiwan Culmer, with a jump of 16.56 meters and the bronze to American Will Claye with 16.36 meters.

This result allowed Hechavarría to earn about 1,190 points in the World Athletics ranking, moving up approximately 25 places and positioning himself among the world’s top 36 triple jumpers. It brings him closer to his goal of qualifying for and competing in the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

His performance shows he has the ability to compete at the international level but also highlights the need to improve his technique and consistency to stand out in major future competitions.
