Cuba recalls Nelson Mandela

On Nelson Mandela International Day (1918-2013), Cuba recalls today he South African leader, an example of tireless struggle for justice.
Roberto Morales Ojeda, Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), highlighted the sincere admiration with which Madiba, the first Black president of South Africa, is remembered around the world.
He noted that, in contrast, a few, hypocritically, still practice racism, deport migrants, and support the genocide in Gaza.
For his part, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Foreign Minister, stated on the same social network that Mandela, with his intelligence, courage, and intransigence, challenged the apartheid regime.
In 2009, the United Nations declared July 18th as Nelson Mandela International Day, recognizing his contributions to the peace and freedom culture.
Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, a lawyer and political activist, was president of South Africa (from 1994 to 1999) after 27 years in prison, resisting the racist apartheid regime.
During his term, he achieved national reconciliation in his country and gave a voice to all victims of crimes committed during the apartheid regime, through what he called the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. (Source: ACN)
