Russian State oil company Rosneft rejected US accusations regarding its operations in Venezuela, according to a statement issued this Tuesday on the company's website.

The text reiterates that: 'All operations for the supply of Venezuelan oil to the company and its structural units, as well as counter deliveries of gasoline to Venezuela, are carried out within the framework of prepaid contracts signed before the imposition of sanctions and do not pursue any interests other than ensuring the return on investments made earlier.'

Following US threats, announced by Washington's Special Envoy for Venezuela, Elliott Abrams, the company stressed that it reserves the right to protect its investments in relevant national and international courts.

Abrams was asked if Rosneft could be subject to US sanctions for buying oil from Venezuela, to which he replied 'Yes, that is possible,' and assured that 'it is clear' that Rosneft receives a lot of money from trade with Venezuela.

Washington has increased its pressures on the Maduro government with the purpose of destroying the Bolivarian Revolution.

The United States immediately recognized Juan Guaido's self-proclamation as 'interim president' of Venezuela and has since established an economic, financial and commercial blockade to overthrow the Venezuelan government and its legitimate president.

In January, the White House unilaterally imposed sanctions on the company Petroleos de Venezuela S.A. which involved the freezing of about seven billion dollars of assets and the confiscation of payments made by US entities to acquire Venezuelan crude. / PL
