Devastating Report Confirms Ecclesiastical Abuse in Chile

The long history of sexual abuse and crime in the Catholic Church in Chile added another chapter with a devastating report on the deplorable attitude of late venerated Priest Renato Poblete.
 
The report is the result of a canonical investigation conducted by the Society of Jesus following a complaint of sexual abuse, power and conscience presented by Marcela Aranda, who got pregnant with the priest and he forced her to have an abortion.
 
During a press briefing in Santiago, Chilean Jesuit Cristian del Campo offered the results of the investigation, which in addition to Aranda's testimony, received the complaint of 21 other women who suffered from sexual abuse by priest Poblete between 1960 and 2008.
 
He explained that all these events were considered plausible and credible and in the case of sexual abuses, they were corroborated with other evidence, such as common patterns in the behavior of the accused and witnesses, who confirmed the relationship between the victims and the offender.
 
All these elements will be shortly presented to the Public Ministry to investigate with all the tools available to them, and punish those who may be responsible, Del Campo concluded. / PL
