China ratified today its willingness to combat the illegal distribution of vaccines against Covid-19, in the face of growing reports of smuggling at exorbitant prices of false substances within the country and also abroad.
Wang Wenbin, a spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told reporters that his government, in addition to confronting this criminal activity, will guarantee production, commercialization and safe application of nationally manufactured medicines.
China and its pharmaceutical companies -he specified- rigorously comply with scientific protocols, international laws and regulations from research to market launching of vaccines.
In recent weeks it was learned of the existence of traffickers who publish ads on social networks such as WeChat -similar to WhatsApp here-, who seek to attract mostly young people who study in other countries and charge between three thousand and seven thousand yuan (almost 500 to a thousand dollars) for applying two doses simultaneously or within a period of two days.
They use the so-called 'dark web' to avoid being tracked, the main vaccines on offer are those from Sinopharm and Sinovac, and they ask buyers for information such as real name, identity number and home address, the Global Times reported.
Some present themselves as workers of these pharmaceutical companies, their services include detailed information on each substance and the issuance of certificates identical to the official ones.
In China, it was learned, the alleged vaccination sites are public hospitals and hotels associated with medical agencies based in Beijing, the capital.
The Ministry of Public Security (Interior) works alongside national embassies in other parts of the world to monitor the illegal introduction of the preparations, supposedly developed here to protect against pneumonia.
Beijing's diplomatic headquarters in South Africa, Italy, Uganda and the Ivory Coast issued alerts to the diaspora to refrain from buying these products, after discovering the offers on social networks.
Even the Italian newspaper Il Fatto Quotidiano reported the complaints of many doctors about a considerable number of citizens who acquired vaccines of unknown origin, but the suspicions point to the fact that they were brought by Chinese residents of the European nation.
Both Sinopharm and Sinovac denied that they had individuals or agents to market their drugs, as the State has not yet authorized their release to the market.
According to an anonymous source from the first company, police investigations unlinked it to the contraband products, confirmed that each of its authentic lots is properly identified and can be traced back to patients.
