Russian President Vladimir Putin officially congratulated Democrat John Biden today on his victory in the US presidential elections, said a statement from the Kremlin press service.

In a telegram, Putin expressed his confidence that Russia and the United States, with a special responsibility for global security and stability, can, despite their differences, actually contribute to solve many problems and challenges facing the world.

Furthermore, Putin pointed that with this in mind, Russian-American cooperation, based on the principles of equality and mutual respect, would serve the interests of both peoples and countries and the entire international community, the Kremlin stresses.

'For my part, I am ready for interaction and contacts with you,' emphasized the Head of State, according to the presidential statement.

According to estimates by the US press, Biden has 302 favorable votes from the electoral commissioners, who began their meeting yesterday, against 232 of the current president Donald Trump, who refuses to acknowledge his defeat.

The day before, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Lavrov, affirmed that his country would recognize the winner of last November's elections in the United States, when the entities in charge of that verdict in the northern country officially did.
