Once China and the United States reach a trade deal, Washington must remove all additional tariffs that currently cause the conflict between the two powers, official sources said.

Due to that, the economic frictions between the two countries were triggered by the US imposition of tariffs on Chinese goods, those measures must cease after a consensus was reached, Ministry of Commerce spokesman Gao Feng said.

Chinese authorities think that the commercial negotiations between the two nations could resume very soon, after Chinese leader Xi Jinping and his US peer Donald Trump met last weekend in Japan, where they agreed to resume the stagnant conversations.

Gao said during a press briefing that China and the United States negotiating teams have communicated and the Asian nation maintains its opposition attitude to taxes, facing the restart of talks with the White House.

Beijing firmly upholds its position that the China-USA economic and trade frictions must be resolved through dialogue and consultation on an equal footing, Gao said. / PL
