Cuban President Meets with Executives from US Technological Firms

Diaz Canel Google2President Miguel Diaz-Canel met with executives from several US companies that operate in the information and communication technology sector and are interested in the potentialities of the Cuban market.
 
Invited by Eric Schmidt, deputy chairman of Alphabet, a company whose main subsidiary is Google, in whose headquarters the meeting took place, Diaz-Canel exchanged viewpoints with participants on the development of high technologies.
 
He also referred to their role in the progress of developing countries and the challenges to make a good use of them in an increasing unequal world.
 
At the meeting, the president noted that the computerization of Cuban society is a government priority, and the US economic blockade of his country is the main obstacle to achieve full development in that field.
 
He also highlighted the potential of Cuba's human resources to advance in that area and the opportunities in other hi-tech sectors like biotechnology.
 
Among Diaz-Canel's interlocutors were the main executives of Google, VaynerMedia, Connectify, Mapbox, McKinsey & Company, Virgin Group, AirBnB, Revolution, Twitter, Microsoft, Bloomberg and Cresta.
 
Previously, the Cuban president met with Republican and Democratic lawmakers at his country's Permanent Mission at the United Nations, where he ratified the will to promote bilateral relations.
 
Diaz-Canel also referred to Cuba's willingness to take advantage of the potentialities of cooperation on the basis of equality and mutual respect.
 
On his first working day in New York, Diaz-Canel also held bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Ecuador, Lenin Moreno; Iran, Hasan Rohani; Croatia, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovia; Mozambique, Filipe Nyussi; Peru, Martín Vizcarra; and Andorra, Antoni Marti. /PL
