Holguin Marks Hotel and Tourism Workers Day

brisas guardalavaca 1Photos: brisasguardalavaca.comRecognized by national and foreign visitors as one of the main tourist destination of Cuba, Holguin will celebrate the Hotel and Tourism Workers Day (SNTHT) in the emblematic hotel Brisas Guardalavaca, on the northeastern coast of the Caribbean nation.
 
The facility, belonging to the Cubanacán Hotel Group, held the main activities for the celebration in recognition to its status of National Vanguard of the SNTHT and Leader for the Quality, due to the tourist management, performance in the surveillance of norms and regulations of security, hygiene and food safety, among other parameters.
 
Rubiel Ricardo Pérez, general secretary of the Hotel and Tourism Trade Union in the province, highlighted the contributions of more than 3 thousand 400 affiliates to the branch in 2017, such as the delivery of more than 54 thousand pesos of Contribution to the Homeland, the highest figure reached to date.
 
brisas guardalavaca 2The Hotel Brisas Guardalavaca was one of the main contributors with about 5 thousand 500 pesos over its initial commitment, while in the individual order the worker José Antonio Pupo González excelled with a delivery of over one thousand pesos.
 
"It also highlights the donation of 8 thousand Cuban Convertible Pesos (cuc) for the fight against cancer, packages for victims of natural phenomena and oncology rooms of hospitals in the province, among others."
 
The union leader also highlighted the recovery efforts of workers of the sector after the damage caused by Hurricane Irma. "The immediate and timely work of workers and cadres allowed, not only the prompt recovery of damages, but also to support other resorts damaged in the country.”
 
Workers of the Hotel and Tourism Sector celebrate their day on March 4, in honor to Elpidio Casimiro Sosa González , a young man who sold his bartender's place in the bar where he worked to donate the money to the revolutionary cause. He was killed in the Assault on the Moncada Barracks on July 26, 1953.
