Cuba's Defense Council (CDP) of Holguin northeastern province highlighted on Monday the successful implementation of the preventive and protection measures in the face of the trajectory of Storm Laura in this region.

The CDP's president, Ernesto Santiesteban, noted the organization and discipline of the population in each of the guidelines and phases decreed by the Civil Defense, which led to not claiming any lives.

On assessing the preliminary damages caused by the winds and rains, it was recorded that there were no major impacts, the main ones being in the agricultural, electrical and communications sectors.

Precisely, until Monday morning, 19.3 percent of the Electric Company's customers had some type of breakdown; situation that must be solved today, Santiesteban assured.

After the recovery phase was decreed, the transfer to their homes of the over 81,000 evacuees began in family homes and in the 155 State centers in Holguin.

The accumulated rainfalls although they were below the forecast did allow the significant recovery of several reservoirs in the territory, with a higher incidence in the following municipalities: Cacocum, Calixto Garcia, Urbano Noris and Mayari. / PL
