"It is difficult to maintain a stable supply of products in our stores, because in addition to the US Economic, Commercial and Financial Blockade that we face, regular suppliers are also impacted by the pandemic, which affects the purchase and distribution of products," said at press conference Elizabeth Reyes Velázquez, director of the North East Division of the Caribbean Store Chain.
This network of shops, with 26 years of experience in the activity, is decisive in Holguín as it comprises 74 percent of the market share in the province and where seven stores of the El Níquel shopping complex, reports in one day more sales than the entire Guantánamo province and only slightly less than Las Tunas and Granma.
Reyes Velázquez commented on the State's efforts to guarantee resources for chain stores, as it is expected that the supply of products such as chicken in these markets will improve in the months of July and August.
Currently, there is an oil deficit in the shops, but in the course of this week the Ecasol Factory in Santiago will send the orders and it will be immediately distributed to the 14 municipalities, in a staggered way according to the supply to the province, she said.
“We have received cleaning modules and it is important to note that we maintain a movement of rapid unloading of the containers and inform the management of the province which is distributed daily throughout the territory, "Velazquez added.
Regarding the decentralization of sales, she explained that it is really a beneficial option, although there are stores where there is a single cash register, while in large stores there are several cash registers, which facilitates marketing. Achieving a more equitable distribution towards the stores located in the different communities to alleviate the pressure of those in the center of town is also a work strategy of our chain”.
Holguín, with a million 34 thousand inhabitants, is one of the most complex provinces in the country, there is a floating population that exceeds 60 thousand people, which generates pressure on the markets, mainly those of the main city.
Holguín, the third tourist pole in the country, reports high numbers of self-employment and is one of the provinces with the greatest impact on family remittances, among other factors that affect the purchasing power of the population.
