The province of Holguín gradually reactivates health services up to 75 percent of capacity, as part of the measures established in the second phase of the post Covid-19 recovery, for which the maintenance of established biosafety standards is essential for the period.
Julio César Estupiñán Rodríguez, governor in the eastern territory, said Tuesday in the TV Round Table program that the Lucía Íñiguez surgical hospital has resumed services in specialties such as neurology and trauma, among others, after being prepared for the care of Covid-19 suspects and positive patients.
There are also isolation centers prepared in the province, such as the Calixto García Polytechnic Institute, to receive travelers who arrive here on humanitarian flights from different regions of the world, Estupiñán said.
He added that Holguín also shows favorable infant mortality indicators with 3.6 per thousand live births, one of the highest priority programs of the health system in Cuba.
Estupiñán Rodríguez referred to the reopening of commerce, gastronomy, and transportation services, which operate in compliance with the norms established in social distancing, handwashing, surface disinfection, and the use of the nasobuco, according to the established provisions.
Regarding food production, one of the priorities established for the recovery stage, he noted that the current spring campaign is directed mainly to the planting of short-cycle crops such as sweet potato, pumpkin and corn, and the attention to other branches of the agriculture sector.
He said that this branch includes more than 100 small industries for the production of casabe, which increases the availability and alternative food offers to the population, based on local production.
In his intervention, the Governor also referred to the stability in nickel production even in the midst of the damages caused by Covid-19, as well as in the checking of construction works in the housing sector, the progressive revival in the tourism services, passenger transportation through the different modalities, the reinstatement of workers to their areas and the conditions created for the development of the 2020 summer program.
After highlighting the work carried out by the Health system and the support of the different sectors in confronting the new coronavirus, Estupiñán Rodríguez reiterated that the province of Holguín will maintain hygienic-sanitary measures to prevent the appearance of new cases of the pandemic and successfully go through the different programs prioritized by the top leadership of the country in key sectors of the economy and the rest of the priorities in the different recovery stages of Covid-19.
